If you have opened a newspaper or turned on your television during the last month, then I don’t have to tell you that the number on topic onevery one’s mind seems to be the swine flu virus. The reason people took notice of the H1N1 flu virus is because as it was spreading throughout Mexico, it was the cause of the deaths of many people there. However, while there is no denying that the swine flu virus is still spreading around the globe, the number of deaths has been significantly less than in Mexico. The reason that I am bringing up this fact is that while I could understand widespread worry if this flu virus was killing a significant amount of people, I don’t understand the ongoing worries at this point. Since the panic level of people around the world has failed to decline (although there is every reason for them to worry less), countries are still taking a hard stance on swine flu.
Although I think it is safe to assume that people are going to continue to worry about swine flu for the foreseeable future, I’m not letting it get in the way of my summer plans. Towards the beginning of this year, I planned a summer trip to London with my friend, and we have been excited about spending a week in London ever since we booked our reservations. Given the fact that I have reserved a Stansted car rental, hotel room and flight, I can’t even imagine what a pain it would be to change all of those reservations at this point. However, because people have a short attention span, I’m guessing that they will have already calmed down by the time my trip actually gets here and I won’t even have to worry about canceling it!
