Since I was a young boy, I have always had a close relationship with my uncle. I think the reason that I have always had such a close relationship with my uncle is because he has always made a conscious effort to maintain a strong relationship with me. While many people only see their uncle on holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, I was fortunate enough to not only have an uncle who was interested in building a bond with me, but also an uncle who only lived fifteen minutes away. As a result, for as long as I can remember, I have always seen my uncle on a weekly.

Because I have such a close relationship with my uncle, you may think that I view him as a kind of father figure. However, I also have an excellent relationship with my father, so this was never the way way that I viewed my uncle. Instead of viewing him like a father, I have always seen him as an older brother. I am an only child, and since my uncle is younger than my Dad, he is not that much older than me. Therefore, he has always been the person in my life who let’s me get away with more than my parents, but at the same time provides me with a lot of valuable life advice.

Now that you know so much about the two of us, it shouldn’t surprise you that my uncle surprised me with a trip to London during my Winter break. It was actually what he gave me for Christmas, and since we got to go while I was still off of school, we had an excellent time with each other.
